There probably isn't a person on the planet over the age of four that hasn't been in need of a quick acting
sunburn treatment. If you are a parent that has somehow allowed your child to get sunburn, you are almost desperate to find a treatment for sunburn that will ease your child's pain instantly.
But, even if you are an adult that has accidentally let too much time go by in the sun and you've ended up with a painful red and perhaps even blistered sunburn, you also want some immediate relief for your pain and you also want to cut down on the degree of permanent skin damage.
Happily, there are some at home sunburn treatments that can both bring almost instant pain relief and can also minimize permanent skin damage. This article list several things that you can do just as soon as you realize that you or your child actually has a sunburn:
1. Immediately gently wash the area to remove any remaining sunscreen. Be gentle with the skin, using cool water and soft cloths.
2. Take cool, but never cold baths or low-pressure showers. If possible, take several oatmeal baths over 3 or 4 days. The oatmeal will be soothing to the damaged skin and will draw out the heat.
3. Put cool compresses made from soft towels over the sunburned areas. Avoid making the compresses from stiff material like a new towel. Use only soft material as the skin will be tender and easily further damaged.
4. Keep the area moist with an aloe based lotion or jells. Aloe will allow the skin to breathe while keeping it moist. Continue with the aloe throughout the healing process. Do not use heavy petroleum based products as these clog the pores, keep the skin from breathing, drive the heat down, and can lead to infection.
5. Take OTC medications like Ibuprofen or Aspirin as directed on the package for the pain.
6. Avoid popping or breaking the blisters if you have them. They form a protective layer over the damaged areas and cut down on infection.
If you have blisters more that two inches wide, then you are in need of severe sunburn treatment, and should seek the help of an emergency room or your MD. It you see white patches within the area of your sunburn, get yourself to the ER or seek immediate professional medical help.
Recently there has been an amazing
